Round 15 Preview
The minor round ends this weekend and the business end of the season starts. Last week the Hawks and Roosters continued on their winning pathways, both with big margins, and the Tigers hit high gear avenging the previous loss to the Maggies. The final four is shaped already, so a warm up for finals sides and those missing out will want a big finish.
Wudinna United v Central Eyre at Wudinna
The derby game that has created so much excitement over the years. Centrals need a quick reversal of recent form, they play finals next week and the Magpies need to finish a hard 2018 well. Recent years have seen a free scoring Bulldog machine with so many forward options, but loss of key personnel has affected returns and they are needing to consider defence far more these days. Defence is what the Maggies do best, so this match will be no shoot out!
Wudinna United have been competitive for long periods in many matches, often fading late in games to see scores blow out. Remi North has been outstanding all year, strong round the centreline and worthy EP squad selection. Grand old David Moyse back in the A’s and going well, only played the last few games but has shown what is needed to win tough matches, premiership player at the club, along with Olympic Dam and showing why. Neil Seaman has led from the front, probably the clubs highest possession winner, he performs highly week in week out, Brett Watkinson back last week and will be a bonus if he can see the season out. Mark North once again great in the air, great on the ground, just great! Jeff Hutt and Izaac Boylan have been bonuses when home, and Dallas Waters ever reliable. Can Henry Zwar raise himself for a few more of his signature crowd pleasing marks? Gravity appears to be fighting him a little these days!
Centrals have endured a tough couple of weeks against the ladder leaders, but is this hiding a resurgence at their favourite time of year. Last win was against a good Tigers unit, on a windy day but displaying a well structured game plan that capitalised on the run of their youth. Can this return? Jesse Stringer a stand out all year, all places. His ball winning ability and sense when he has it is a sheer delight to see, anyone who enjoys our game will enjoy this bloke in action. Kane Sampson another year in great form, appears that he will be a top level player until he is sixty! Jake Sampson, Tyler Chapman, Clint Winter, there is still much to like in the Central’s side relying much more of developing youth these days. Brodi Grocke, Brandon Waters, Corey Waters, Chandler May, Jaiden Fridd are amongst a clutch of Bulldog up and comers which will hail future ‘dog success.
This could well be the closest match of the round, both desperate to finish the minor round well and particularly against this opposition. Centrals still start a favourite and will contest yet another finals in 2018
