A highly skilled and determined Rooster outfit came to play, a great grand final right to the end. Hawks led by three goals at the half but that Crimson Tide came in during the third quarter, the famous premiership quarter with Elliston piling on six goals to one for a handy lead of 14 points at three quarter time. Handy only, not match winning, and thoughts go back to a fortnight ago when the Roosters lead by a similar margin in the last quarter.
This is a different day and a different set of circumstances, no tomorrows to think of! The Hawks continued to attack hard but the Roosters held firm. Desperate times and heroic acts as pressure rose to fever pitch and the Rooster faithful supporters (plus a few) cheered and willed their boys over the line.
Never a surprise, the Elliston team is brim full of talent. Liam Newton taking the best on ground PA Matthews Medal narrowly from comrade Delahay Miller. In fact these two dominant midfielders scored 3,3,2 and 2,2,3 votes, exactly the same as two domiant midfielders in their 2012 win at Wirrulla, Tom Rumbelow winner narrowly from Jay Williams then.
Ross Bascomb a very welcome return from injury received at Mortlock Shield, many thought that he wouldnt make it, but he had a major influence. He did find himself on the receiving end of some off the ball treatment, but was able to maintain focus, certainly the incident assisted lifting Rooster resolve, along with a bonus shot at goal on the cusp of three quarter time.
So the Roosters set about celebrating their work, who runs a party better than Elliston? No-one!
Congratulations to the Roosters
