Mid West wishes to join the greater football community in achnowledging and thanking David Shipway for his outstanding work in community football and football in general.  Shippy is highly respected right across the State and has guided us through significant changing times.

Never one to shy away from difficult issues, David has remained a calm and approachable voice of reason, his experience ensures that outcomes are in the best interests of football.

At the end of every session, Shippy is always prepared to enjoy a refreshment and cover the lighter side of our great game.

Whilst this is the end of an era with the Commission and SACFL, we hope that he continues involvement in some way, and we wish him well for the future.  We are grateful for his work in our game.

Announcement from SANFL Community Football Manager Matt Duldig follows:

7 October 2017

Matt Duldig - Community Football Manager SANFL

David Shipway AM has formally advised the SA Football Commission that he will be standing down from the Commission and his role as Chair of the Community Football Committee, effective 7 November 2017.

Shippy has served on the Commission for an impressive 21 years, and the Community Football Board since its inception in 2008.  In his earlier days, David served on the West Adelaide Football Club Board for 10 years, including 5 years as President and 2 years as Chairman.

Shippy advised the Commission that it was an appropriate time to step down to provide the Commission and Community Football the opportunity to refresh and build on the platform that has been established for our great game into the next era.  David said “Community Footy is in great shape with a strong Committee, and has great leadership in Matt Duldig supported by Casey Grice and Sarah Neal to service the needs of our 26 League’s and 200+ Clubs.  There have been some big ticket items dealt with over the last 10 years and no doubt plenty of challenges ahead”.

While there have been some contentious issues on the table at times, everyone has acted in the best interests of the game, which continues to grow.  Shippy expressed thanks to all of the hard working people that keep footy alive in the country and metro areas and for their friendship, cooperation & support.

SANFL Chief Executive Officer, Jake Parkinson congratulated Shippy on his outstanding service to the game in South Australia, and in particular to Community Football, his stewardship and vision for success has resulted in fantastic initiatives such as the establishment of the Community Football League Inc., numerous Club Sustainability Programs and a range of partnerships that assist Clubs financially, including over $1m worth of field bins with Ahrens – Shippy’s legacy will be everlasting on Community Football.”

Of course we won’t be able to keep Shippy away from our great game and no doubt he will have some footy involvement in the future.

Peter Lindner, who has been with the Community Football Board since its inception, has been appointed Interim Chair of the Community Football Committee until the SANFL AGM in March next year.
