As indicated in last week’s Weekender, Simon Devine, AFL GM League Operations Manager is leaving us to join the Northern Football League and he has penned his thoughts below:
First of all I want to say it was a privilege and an honour to be a part of the GOTAFE GVFL since January 2015. I’m proud of what has been achieved during my time here and I’m looking forward to the next stage of my career moving forward.
I have learnt a lot professionally during my time as the League Operations Manager of AFL Goulburn Murray, whilst overseeing all the leagues that AFL GM administers. The role has at times been challenging but I can proudly say that all leagues are continuing to move forward in a positive and progressive manner.
Some highlights in relation to the growing profile of the GOTAFE GVFL include;
• Increase in social media profile
• Upgraded website, increased traffic over the last 18 months by over 30% (only 3 other leagues in the country have higher), this also has provided a financial windfall for the league)
• Filming games (all senior games are videoed, allowing better education for players & umpires and ability to use vision for promotional purposes)
• Live Scoring (ability for clubs to implement live scoring allows supporters to follow them no matter where they are in the world).
• Live Streaming (this year live streaming vision of games occurred through the home and away season)
Along with the exposure there have been several positive impacts that AFL GM have implemented over the last 18 months;
• A revamped tribunal system
• Implementation of the Match Review Panel for GVFL Senior Football
• Reduced match day paperwork for clubs
• 3 year broadcasting deal with One FM
• Primary School Football Review
• Continued strong relationships with clubs, umpires, sponsors and advertisers
• Succession plan (if someone leaves a role there is someone else who can slide across)
The above along with many other initiatives we have also implemented in the KDFNL and the 3 junior leagues make me proud of what I have been a part of.
I want to personally thank all league boards, every club, every committee member, and every volunteer. Without your support we as administrators are not able to do the job to the best of our ability. I know all clubs will receive great support from Grant Wilson and he will do a fantastic job with the role. I would also like to thank the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission and my fellow staff members who no doubt will continue to do a great job as they have done since being in the region.
I look forward to watching the continued success of this great league and who knows you might see me on that last Sunday in September this year.
Best of Luck Simon Devine
On behalf of the League I wish to acknowledge Simon's significant contribution in his 18 months with us. With administration of the GVFL to be undertaken by AFL Goulburn Murray when he started, all eyes were on the new setup and there was a lot of interest in how it was going to go. I am pleased to say that feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and this can be attributed to Simon and the whole AFLGM team. We wish him well in his new role.
We look forward to working with Grant Wilson, who will step up to fill Simon's role until the end of the season. Ted Lindon, with a degree in Sports Management and also captain of Shepparton Football Club will step into an Operations Officer Role, whilst primarily deals with the KDFNL will also have some involvement with the GOTAFE GVFL.
We expect a smooth transition
