SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
ANZAC DAY ROUND
2016 Grand Finalists replay
Flagstaff Hill V Morphett Vale
Sunday 23rd April 2017 at Flagstaff Hill
It is the tradition that in War time that no Anzac Soldier would surrender under a white flag. In keeping with this theme of the day the Southern Football League Board of Directors have decided to retire our traditional white goal umpire’s flags for a day and replace them with a replica of our National Flag to further enhance our pride on this very special day.
Further to the theme of the day the coin toss for each game will be performed in the traditional two-up fashion by the Field Umpires in charge. So, let’s charge into another full day of Australian Rules Football and enjoy!
The Southern Football League, with immense pride, has had many Anzac’s, men and women, who have served their Country recently and in the past.
The S.F.L. sincerely thank and remember all Anzac’s on this special weekend.
The League wishes to acknowledge the involvement of the R.S.L., in awarding the Captain James Stanley Malpas Medal to the best player on the ground. The S.F.L. are fortunate to have living relatives of the Malpas family present to award the medal.
The spirit of ANZAC is invincible.
Today we stand safe and free,
clothed with all the privileges and rights
of citizens in these great free countries.
And all these things –
Liberty Security Opportunity
The Privilege of citizenship
We owe to those men and women who fought,
endured, suffered and died for us and for their country.
“LEST WE FORGET”
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
