The information contained in this area of the website has been taken from a number of books that were collated by Mr. Ken Donne, the former Secretary and long time historian of the Southern Football League. Mr. Donne has carefully recorded this information from original records of the League that were detroyed by theives who stole the safe in which the original records and documents were stored. Unfortunately, the records were burnt when the safe was destroyed.
The Southern Football League acknowledges its debt to Mr. Donne, for without his painstaking efforts more than 100 years of history would have been totally lost.
The information on the early years is fairly sparse and some years have no records at all. Mr. Donne has tirelessly pursued any information he can find to verify the early days of the League.
Records from these early times are sparse as football in those early days was a recreation and historians of Mr. Donne's ilk were few.
Mr. Donne has gleaned much of the information from hand written records maintained from some of the clubs, from hearsay and from some early newspapers. He has been extremely diligent in his pursuit of accuracy in all matters.
