The Hall of Fame Charter
HALL OF FAME - CHARTER
The Southern Football League Hall of Fame is established in order to provide due recognition to those who have given outstanding service to Australian Football throughout the League history since its establishment in 1886.
A Hall of Fame Committee shall be authorised to research the history of candidates and make recommendations to the League Directors regarding those who should be considered for induction. The Directors shall endorse all inductions into the Hall of Fame.
Membership shall be available for Players, Umpires, Coaches, Administrators, Support Staff and any persons who have provided outstanding service to Australian Football through the Southern Football League or its clubs and, because of the nature of the League, combinations of all types of service shall be considered.
Consideration is given on the basis of record, ability, integrity, sportsmanship and character
An initial selection of candidates shall be inducted at a special function convened for that purpose and other inductions shall be made in future years. Candidates' history shall be updated if they continue to serve the League and failure to make the initial listing does not preclude induction at a later date.
After the initial inauguration a maximum of five (5) candidates shall be selected by the Hall of Fame Committee for approval by the League Directors.
All inductees shall be presented with a suitable plaque and have their name entered on an Honour Board erected specifically for that purpose.
A document shall be created to contain all the nominations (successful or otherwise) and will form a valuable contricution to the history of those who have made an indelible mark in the history of the League.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION.
The general criterion for selection shall be to have served Australian Football through the Southern Football League for a period of 25 years (which do not need to be consecutive). The Hall of Fame Committee shall devise any means it sees fit to select those to be inducted.
There may be some exceptions to the general rule and the Hall of Fame Committee shall have the right to nominate these to the Directors for endorsement.
ELITE PLAYERS - Players who have given exceptional service shall be considered and the winning of three (3) Best and Fairest awards in "A" Grade is considered exceptional.
SPECIAL SERVICES - Persons who provide special services to Football in exceptional or unusual capacities.
COACHING - Coaches with exceptional records of coaching within the League.
(FOOTNOTE: Only information that can be verified has been included for the purposes of entry into the Hall of Fame. As much of the League's documented history was destroyed by a senseless act of vandalism in 1994, most of the information has been gleaned from club records and from the persons whose names have been presented for consideration)
