2018 Junior Representative Trials

Wagga Basketball is pleased to announce the tryout date for the 2018 Wagga Heat and Wagga Blaze Junior Representative Program.

What is SJL & what is Representative basketball?

The Southern Junior League is a division on the Molten Waratah Junior League administered by Basketball NSW.

The Southern Junior League comprises teams from the south-eastern area of NSW and the competition includes teams in the U12 to U18 age groups for boys and girls.

Representative Age Groups for 2018 are:

Under 12 - players born 2007 to 2009
Under 14 - players born 2005 to 2006
Under 16 - players born 2003 to 2004
Under 18 - players born 2001 to 2002

For 2018 the SJL competition has regular season rounds to be held in February to May, concluding with the finals in late June. However the representative season can start with some standalone events prior to this and also continue past June for teams that win their individual finals. These teams can have the opportunity to continue on to the State Cup, which for 2018 is scheduled for August.

Playing representative basketball is a privilege and requires significant commitment. It is for those players who wish to test and develop their skills to a much higher level than their regular weekly competition can provide. It is also the first step on your pathway to higher representative honours.

These trials are open to all players and Wagga Basketball encourages any player looking to take their game to the next level to attend this trial.

If I am selected what is expected?

The successful players will be required to attend training sessions, to play as their respective team in the Wagga basketball weekly junior completion and to attend the SJL competition rounds including finals and State Cup if required.

Individual teams may also be entered in standalone tournaments at the discretion of the respective team coach and Wagga Basketball.

There is significant commitment expected from not only the successful players, but also their respective families as all SJL completion rounds require travel to and from the venues. 2018 venues are yet to be confirmed, however in past years competition rounds have been held in Albury, Canberra, Wollongong and Goulburn/Moss Vale.

Registrations taken online only via website link - 2018 Junior Representative Trials Registration Form and needs to be completed by 5.00pm Saturday 7th October 2017.
