ROAD TO TAOYUAN - Goannas reunite for best camp to date

After having 3 training camps in 6 weeks earlier in the year, the Goannas members enjoyed a break in camps until April 18th and 19th. They reunited on that weekend fresh and eager to continue to build for the World Deaf Basketball Championships in July 2015.

The camp was held at the Rowville Sports Academy over the weekend, thanks to Basketall Australia's assistance in securing a training venue in a better location. The Goannas enjoyed the change in venue, and it obviously showed in their training intensity, with Coach Reid confirming it was the best camp they have had in their preparations despite the absence of a practise game as was standard in past camps.

They focused on their defensive structures and fine-tuned their defensive skiils, which has been a hallmark of Reid-coached teams at state level basketball. There were also important matters to decide as a team, particularly with the appointment of the team captain and vice-captain.

Deaf Baskbetall Australia congratulates Mark Bilyj on being appointed captain. and Samuel Cartledge as vice captain of the Goannas - both men have displayed strong leadership and postitive attitudes on and off the court, and they are to be commended for being selected by their peers to lead the team on the world stage. Well done Mark and Samuel - we all know you will be great examples of deaf basketball in Australia.

The next camp is now scheduled for 16th and 17th May, and it is planned to include a practise game that weekend - stay tuned for further details!
