RESULTS - Goannas go down to Slovenia

Australia 55 vs Slovenia 90

A very tough but entertaining game that showed the Goannas starting to bring the form they are renowned. Slovenia got off to a strong start with the London Olympic games giant, Zupan scoring regularly from inside the paint or from the 3 point line. Strong defence from Lachlan Jackson and Scott Uttley restricted the scoring, but the experience of the Slovenians kept them in control. Foul trouble in the Goannas camp upset the team balance in the second quarter but they maintained strong defence and quick breaks from point guard Sam Cartledge, who kept the Slovenians working all game. The Goannas came back in the third quarter and increased their scoring rate and intensity with excellent defence from Jackson and Uttley and fast breaks from Cartledge and Williams. The third quarter was the biggest for the Goannas campaign with 19 points. Their form continued into the last quarter with strong defence causing turnovers that they converted into points to finish off the game with a respectable 55 points, the highest of the campaign. The Goannas outscored the Europeans in the last half of the game with 36 to 33 points, an outstanding effort against quality opposition. Top scorers were Sam Cartledge with a strong 17 points, Morgan Williams with strong 13 points and Lachlan Jackson with 11 points. Lachlan Jackson also topped rebounds with 16 for the game. The coach was again pleased with the team intensity and competitiveness but disappointed with the scoreboard.
