RESULTS - Goannas do battle with Team America

Australia 35 vs US 94

A solid game by Australia that started at frenetic pace and never slowed down. The US had a lot of trouble getting through the Goannas defence, forcing numerous turnovers by the US. The US called a time out towards the end of the quarter and came back with a press that the Goannas struggled against. This allowed the US to storm ahead as the Goannas turned the ball over. The first quarter finished at US with 22 points and the Goannas with 9 points. The US set up the press for most of the second quarter to forge ahead with 54 points to Australia 13 points at the half time break. The Goannas stepped up the defence again forcing turn over errors on the US but could not convert them into points with wayward passing and missed shots. The US were forced to use the starting five for most of the game as the Goannas started to make headway in the third and last quarters. The game finished with a large margin but that did not reflect the closeness of the game with strong defence from both sides. An entertaining game with great performances by Morgan Williams with 11 points backed up by Lachlan Jackson and Sam Cartledge with 6 points each. The coach, Lance Wright, was pleased with the competitiveness of the players and their "never give up" attitude which surprised the US. He conceded that the taller opponents and stronger bodies was the difference.
