Redbacks launch new development program

The Perth Basketball Association continues to grow with the official launch of the Redbacks Elite Development (R.E.D) program.

The new development initiative, will be overseen by experienced coach Colin Driscoll and will initially target just 12 WABL level Redbacks juniors per session.

Redbacks Elite Development will be used to underpin the development of our athletes and support the overall enhancement of our WABL program. Each athlete will be exposed to skill development and strength and conditioning in a 1.5 hour session.

“This is a major step forward for the Redbacks, the development of our young athletes on and off the floor is a priority for us and R.E.D will be a key part of this strategy” said General Manager Christian Rice.

“To have someone of Colin’s calibre driving this initiative is game changing for our club and our WABL players, his holistic approach will be truly beneficial.”

“I would strongly encourage our athletes who are not already involved in academy or Basketball WA programs to be a part of R.E.D.”

“Providing players with a fun, but challenging and progress series of lessons, not only will benefit the individual as a basketballer but as a person” said Head Coach Colin Driscoll.

“If each player can leave training with a better skill set and an understanding of WHY, then their WABL team will also be richer for the experience.”

R.E.D will be launched with a special five week program, beginning Tuesday 13 March and running till the end of Term One. Each session will cater for just 12 athletes with sessions being run in a mixed environment or a girls only session once per week.

A weekly registration will cost $25 per session, with the full five week program available for $100.

  • Tuesday 6:00am – 7:30am @ Leisurelife Vic Park (GIRLS ONLY)
  • Wednesday 6:00am – 7:30am @ Leisurelife Vic Park
  • Thursday 6:00am – 7:30am @ Loftus Recreation Centre

About Redbacks Elite Development (R.E.D)
The purpose of R.E.D is to improve individual shooting and basketball fundamentals needed to play basketball. The program will be led by Colin Driscoll, who has over 20 years involvement in international age group programs.

The R.E.D program is based on a well-structured Long Term Athletic Development model, which guides the athletes through the skills required at each level to develop and succeed in the long term.  The program will cater for all WABL players who have the aspiration to be an elite player and hopefully produce locally grown national representatives.

Training discipline will be emphasized and coaches will encourage players to stay focused and on task during practices.
