Redbacks welcome Ray Turner

The Perth Basketball Association is pleased to announce an MSBL import signing for the 2015 SBL season.

Ray Turner, a 6’9, 105kg power forward hailing from Houston, Texas, USA, has agreed to terms with the club.

Ray in 2013 completed his 4 year collegiate career with NCAA Division 1 School, Texas A&M in the SEC (South Eastern Conference) where he finished his senior year with averages of 9.2ppg & 6.2rpg whilst maintaining a field goal percentage of 51%.

After his collegiate career Ray chose to play in the QBL (Queensland Basketball League) for the 2014 season where he was a member of the championship winning side – Rockhampton Rockets.

Ray had a fantastic season for Rockhampton where he went on to average 20.5ppg, 12.8rpg, 1.4bpg & shot a blistering 64.1% from the field. Ray’s terrific season not only resulted in a QBL championship but also saw him awarded the grand final series Most Valuable Player & make the 2014 QBL All-league team.

At the conclusion of the QBL season Ray returned to the USA where he was later drafted by the NBA D-League side LA D-Fenders with the 17th pick (Round 3). After time with the D-Fenders, Ray made his way to Germany as part of club side Phoenix Hagen, before then choosing to sign with the Perth Redbacks for the upcoming 2015 SBL campaign.

Ray arrived in the country on January 30 & has already been training with the side.

The Perth Redbacks would like to formally welcome Ray to the club & Western Australia. The club is extremely excited at the prospect & unique dynamic of what Ray will bring to the side in its campaign to go one step further than their 2014 semi-final appearance.
