All Stars announce Big V Women’s senior coach Bruce Robinson

The Collingwood All Stars are delighted to announce the appointment of Bruce Robinson as senior coach of the Big V Women’s team.

Bruce’s appointment follows the withdrawal of previous appointee Janita Badon, who due to commitments in her professional life outside basketball in the US, is unable to make the trip to Australia for the Big V season.

According to All Stars President Tony Corr, “We are naturally disappointed that Janita Badon can’t join us in 2019 as originally planned – but we fully support the difficult decision Janita has made.

“Nevertheless, we are delighted to appoint Bruce Robinson – a highly experienced and widely respected basketball coach – to the position of senior coach for our Big V All Stars Women’s team.”

Like many senior coaches, Bruce Robinson’s coaching career began in domestic basketball – specifically in 2004 with Yarrambat Basketball Club, where he has coached numerous girls’ teams over the last 15 years from under U12s to U19s.

Bruce progressed to the rep program in 2008 with the Diamond Valley Basketball Association. He has coached many girls’ teams from VJL3 through to VC – including coaching VC teams from U12s through to U20s. Highlights include an U14s VJL2 premiership in 2014, an U12s VC Reserve runner’s up in 2017 and an U20s VC semi-finalist in 2013.

According to Bruce, “I’m excited to be given the opportunity to coach the Collingwood All Stars Big V Women’s team and am looking forward to working with the team for the season ahead of us.”

The withdrawal of Janita Badon provides the additional opportunity to review the appointment of an import player for the Collingwood All Stars Big V Women’s team. Tony Corr says, “The Club expects to make an exciting announcement in the very near term regarding the recruitment of a US import for the team.”
