ANZAC Day commemorations got underway in the SBL at Wally Hagan Stadium with the Cougars looking for consecutive wins after their breakthrough performance on Saturday night against the Lakeside Lightning.

The Flames were also coming off a win 12 days earlier against the South West Slammers before a long wait to play on ANZAC Day.

It was Cockburn who started the better and the home team led by five points by quarter-time, eight at half-time and then still by eight at three quarter-time.

However, Rockingham had something left in reserve and finished all over Cockburn in the fourth period with 32 points to 19 to end up winning by five to improve to a 3-3 record on the season.

Dena English delivered her best performance since joining the Flames this season from the Slammers with 22 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Jacinta Bourne continued her tremendous season for Rockingham with another 15 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Chelsea Armstrong added 11 points for the Flames, Ariana Hetherington 10 (six rebounds) and Tarsha Fletcher 10 (six boards).

Brianna Moyes had a big game for the Cougars trying to inspire a second straight win. The point guard finished with 28 points and three assists for the afternoon.

Kersten Mitchell contributed 16 points and 16 rebounds for Cockburn with Chelsea Evans adding 10 points, four boards and four assists, and Lindsey Doucette eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile at Ray Owen Sports Centre, the Eastern Suns too were on a high after their first win of the season on Saturday night over the East Perth Eagles.

The Tigers were also looking to bounce back from a home loss to the Stirling Senators on Friday night so the stage was set for a tremendous ANZAC Day contest.

Willetton was still missing Kate Malpass but Stacey Barr returned to mark her first game with the Tigers' new import Jessica Hootmann.

The Tigers started strongly with 25 points to 18 in the first quarter and that did prove the difference in the finish. The Eastern Suns battled hard and never gave up the ghost, but the Tigers just did enough to win by five points and improve to a 3-3 record on the season.

Barr top-scored off the bench for Willetton with 17 points even if she didn't quite shoot the lights out with 5-of-18 from the field and 0-of-4 from downtown.

Desiree Kelley continued her good form for the Tigers with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals while Hootmann contributed 13 points and five boards, Lara Napier eight points, five assists and four rebounds, and Zoe Harper seven points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Jennie Rintala top-scored for the Eastern Suns with 17 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists.

Tahlia Fejo added 16 points, four steals, two rebounds and two assists for Kalamunda with Hannah King contributing 10 points and Rebecca Motroni nine to go with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
