U10 Breakup Fri 9th Sep - Lightning Games

With our U10 season completed last round we have one more special event, our U10 Breakup.  The U10 Breakup will take place this Friday afternoon from 4.00pm-5.15pm, with all players getting one last chance to hit the court.  We will also be handing out medallions to all participants from the U10 competition.

In previous years we've run the U10 breakup as a big skills clinic.  With the growth of our U10 competition to 15 teams we've opted for a different format this year.  All teams will play two x lightning games (8 mins running clock) against teams of similar skills.  To make things even more interesting we have matched up girls teams against boys teams, and A grade teams against B grade teams.  With the shorter game times we expect scores to stay close, even if there is a slight imbalance between the two teams.

The draw is attached below, along with the rules of the Lightning games.

U10 Breakup Lightning Games Rules

  • Games will be 8 minutes running clock.  Teams will go one direction for the entire game.
  • All games will be played on 10 foot rings in preperation for graduation to the U12 competition.
  • Teams must be ready by their court prior to the previous game finishing.  This will allow quick transitions.
  • Subs can happen at any time.  The player coming off just needs to tag the player coming on.  No need to wait for a referees whistle.
  • All games will use a modified scoresheet for simplicity that will track the teams scores rather than individual players scores.
  • We ask coaches to sub strategically to ensure close games.
  • Bibs will be available in the case of two teams with the same uniforms playing against each other.  Numbers are not relevant.
