Next season, Ipswich Basketball’s Junior Competition will be played in odd age divisions

                U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 where there are sufficient teams to form a competition.

The change, introduced successfully last year, helps align ages to the rep season- e.g. All U15 players will be eligible to play U16 rep. In first season 2018 all U16 rep players will play at our U16 level as we revert back to even ages.

It removes the need for clubs to arrange for rep players to “play-up” in a higher division.

Trial games start on Saturday 15 July, Monday 17 July, Wednesday 19 July, Thursday 20 July and continue for three weeks. First fixture games on Saturday 05, Monday 07, Wednesday 09 and Thursday 10 August.

Semi-finals will be played in the last week of November with the grand final on Friday 01 December (week 9 term 4).

Likely playing times:

Saturday- U9 mixed- starting at 8.00 am

Monday- U11, U13, U15, U17 girls (or organized in Junior Girls and Open Girls) starting at 5.15 pm*

Wednesday- U17, U19 Boys- starting at 6.15 pm

Thursday-     U11, U13, U15 Boys- starting at 5.15 pm

Actual playing times and divisions will depend upon the number of teams nominated by clubs

*NOTE: The above arrangement gives the girls their own playing night just like the boys. This is in keeping with girls in sport research and will hopefully attract more players, as will moving the junior girls away from the Saturday clashes with netball. The intention is to increase the numbers of girls playing basketball at each age level to reverse the decline in the number of girls playing basketball. Boys’ numbers have been increasing by about six teams each season.
