COCKS TO AIM UP FOR FLAMES IN 2018

The Townsville Flames are excited to announce the signing of WNBL Champion Micaela Cocks for 2018 QBL season. Cocks will join the Flames for her second stint after previously playing 6 games for the team in the 2015 season.

Cocks joins the Flames following another successful WNBL season with the Townsville Fire in which she was a key contributor to the team bringing home their third WNBL crown in four seasons.

Townsville Basketball General Manager, Greg Vanderjagt expressed his excitement in securing the signature of the New Zealand Tall Ferns star ahead of the 2018 season.

“Micaela is a great signing for the Flames in 2018, we were in the market for a point guard as Rachael McCully will not be returning this season. Micaela was always high on our list given her ability to play both guard positions and shoot the ball consistently from the 3 which will add another dynamic to the group this year”.

“Micaela will add another dimension to the group this year and will be looked upon heavily to provide leadership to the group and act as a mentor for our developing talent. Mic has demonstrated she is a huge asset to our program off the floor as well, her identity in our community and willingness to work with our junior athletes is first class. She possesses the qualities we look for in our program as a selfless individual and is always willing to sacrifice time to assist with the development of junior players”.

Cocks shared her excitement about staying in Townsville this off season after being heavily recruited throughout the QBL.

“Townsville is home for me, it is always my first choice to play here. The program has really grown since I last played for the Flames and with the roster that Mike (St-Maurice) is building we have a legitimate shot at winning a title this year”.

“I’m looking forward to competing for New Zealand at the upcoming Commonwealth Games then really locking into getting ready for the QBL season with the Flames. It’s a great opportunity to play with some great players like Darcee Garbin and be involved in helping Townsville Basketball develop young players”.

The Flames will start their 2018 pre-season this week in preparation for the opening QBL game on May 4th vs Mackay.
