Bishop to Bolster Flames
Flames Head Coach Luke Brennan today announced that Australian Opal representative, WNBL, WNBA & European superstar, Abby Bishop, will be representing the Townsville Flames for the remainder of the season. Bishop will miss only a few games while at the upcoming Australian Opal camp, but the Furnace faithfuls will be very excited to see her in action.
The 2015 WNBL Most Valuable Player comes in to the 5-4 Flames ready to get going straight away, and has been cleared to play this Friday at the Furnace.
Brennan offered a glowing review of Bishop before her arrival;
“She brings everything to the team. Great passer out of the low post, can score from anywhere, international experience and she’s an amazing player.”
Between Micaela Cocks, Rachael McCully & now Abby Bishop, Brennan now has a treasure trove of top-international experience to rely on in the back half of the QBL season. But Coach Brennan didn’t look too much beyond this week’s game against the Gold Coast Rollers when speaking to the media;
“Abby has been at training this week and looks to be fitting in well, Gold Coast are a tough team which have been on a bit of a roll, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The Flames have also released Kourtni Perry, Townsville Basketball wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
Be at the Furnace on Friday to witness Abby’s debut, as the Flames & Heat take on the Gold Coast Rollers, Flames tipoff is at 6.30pm, with the Heat to follow at 8.30pm.
