Congratulations Port Stephens Thunder Basketball

Port Stephens Thunder Basketball

Thanks to the generous support of the Newcastle and Hunter youth Development Trust the Port Stephens PCYC has been able to launch the Port Stephens Thunder Junior Basketball program for 2011.

The kind donation of both cash and equipment has paved the way for the introduction of Port Stephens Thunder competing in the Central Junior league basketball Competition. The Thunder have been able to run a Level 1 Coaches Course, and level 0 referee course as well as transporting young people to and from training and games, as well as assist with purchase of uniforms. None of this would have been possible without the support of NAHYDT.

We have also recently been to Bourke PCYC to run clinics for disadvantaged youth of that area. The success of this will promote basketball as an activity for the Bourke area.

Upcoming programs for basketball the Thunder are looking to run include, Morning skills/breakfast program. This will see young people picked up from home in the mornings, participate in skills training, have breakfast and then be dropped at school. This initiative will look to start in term 2. We are also hoping to increase the number of girls participating on basketball with a hope of fielding some girl’s teams in next year competition.

Thanks again to NAHYDT for your ongoing support.
