THUNDER RETAIN LEADERS
Thursday 8 April 2010
The NT Thunder have made no change to their senior leaders, appointing Jarred Ilett as captain and Shannon Rusca vice-captain for the club’s second season in the QAFL competition.
Former VFL star Brett Goodes has been included in the leadership group in his debut season at the club alongside Aaron Motlop, Simon Munkara, Charlie Maher and Cameron Ilett.
Rusca, who is hoping to play in Round 2 at Redland after a knee reconstruction almost 10 months ago, was pleased to continue in his leadership role.
"It's always a pleasure to be a leader of a Northern Territory side wearing the ochre, black and white," Rusca told The NT News.
"I look forward to leading the young kids we've got and teaching them the right and wrong things about the game of footy.
"We've recruited well after a first season when everyone was keen to see how we went.
"We've got some big players which we didn't have last year and quality on-ballers like Brett Goodes which should make us pretty competitive again."
The Thunder meet the Brisbane Lions in an intriguing opening round clash for them at TIO Stadium tomorrow night.
The Lions will almost certainly be without Tom Rockliff, who is expected to be elevated to the seniors this afternoon, along with probably James Hawksley.
With no players returning from injury, it balances the game out evenly after the Lions flogged Mt Gravatt in the only game last weekend.
The Lions have plenty of running power, which is key ingredient for success at TIO Stadium.
