FSC AND SUTHERLAND CAN'T BE SPLIT

Players and spectators were greeted to a perfect day and perfect pitch for this inaugural event.

FSC started the game stronger of the two teams going immediately on the attack with SSFA not settling until 10 or so minutes in.

Despite FSC having a wealth of possession and dominating the game early, SSFA were always dangerous on the counterattack and a defensive error saw them take the lead early.

Undaunted FSC continued with their attacking football resulting in several shots invariably going directly to the keeper or over the goal. With the half coming to an end FSC were relentless especially through Angela Graham with their raids into the SSFA box to no avail. Sutherland on the other hand were looking to double their lead on the counter attack or through precision corners.

Half time saw the teams go into the sheds SSFA 1 - FSC 0

The second half began as the first finished. Despite SSFA having the kick off, FSC immediately had the ball and were on the attack again requiring the SSFA keeper to pull off 2 fine saves within a minute.

Although seeming to be living on borrowed time, the SSFA girls were able to repel FSC time after time. Looking to his bench the FSC coach introduced Kaylie Chapman on the right who immediately had a strong impact causing further problems for the SSFA girls.

The game continued with more great work by the SSFA stopper and defence with shots saved or cleared off the line. Something had to give and after yet another raid FSC was awarded a penalty following an infringement in the box. Jasmine Pearce who up to then had also had a strong game made no mistake levelling the scores in the 68th minute.

While FSC continued to press for a win, it was clear they where tiring. Meanwhile SSFA seemed to get a second wind and for the last 10 minutes were dominating the play. The score however stubbornly remained at 1-1.

For the first of hopefully many such fixtures the breadth and quality of women's football in both regions was on show for all who were entertained to an exciting and skilful game in perfect conditions.

Whilst all players acquitted themselves very well, special mention goes to Morgan Potter, Angela Graham and Jasmine Pearce from FSC and Lauren Miletich (keeper), Laura Hall-Smith and Sian Genaud fro SSFA who all had exceptional games.

Thanks to the FSC Junior Council and families and players who contributed to the early part of the day, to Wollongong United for the use of the ground and SSFA players and officials who had to travel to help make the day such a success. Special mention to Emi Skopal (FSC Womens Council and player) who worked extremely hard to ensure the success of the day.
