WOMEN'S DIVISION 1 - ROUND 13 PREVIEW

Albion Park hold top spot albeit by goal difference over Woonona however Park still have a game in hand. Tarrawanna is keeping within touching distance however they will need a strong finish to the season if they are going to take the league championship over the top two sides. Wollongong Olympic round off the top 4 and maintain a 4 point buffer over Port Kembla with a game in hand. The bottom four sides though may still have a say in the order in which the top 4 will be settled.

Sunday 26 June

Tarrawanna v Wollongong Olympic @ Tarrawanna Oval - 1.00pm

It's third v fourth here. It's probably more important for Tarrawanna to win this one to keep in touch with the leaders although I am sure bragging rights are also on the line with these two fierce combatants.

These two sides played just 2 weeks ago and it was Tarrawanna that won that one 4-1. Tarrawanna's Kahlia Muilwyk (11 goals) will be a key threat to Olympic although there are serveral other ladies that can cause them heartwaches as well.

Tarrawanna are coming off a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to Woonona last weekend whilst Olympic play Albion Park is their deferred fixture on Friday night.

I think this one will be closer than their encounter a couple of weeks ago but I think with Tarrawanna having more to play for, I expect them to get up by one or two goals.

Albion Park v Thirroul @ Terry Reserve - 1.00pm

Albion Park wcould go into this match three points clear at the top of the table and given the ladder positions, it will be hard to see anything but an Albion Park win here. Shakiah Tungai and Brittany Ring are both top scorerers for Albion Park but with Kristina Glisic also getting amongst the goals, there are threats everywhere for opposition teams.

Thirroul will be hoping the experienced Amanda Allnut and Toni Dobbs can help stem the tide and cause a boilover on Sunday. Albion Park beat Thirroul 3-0 earlier this season (Round 6) and I expect a similar scoreline however if the conditions are wet, this could even out the teams a little more.

Woonona v Balgownie @ Ocean Park - 2.00pm

Woonona are having a stellar season so far and are in it to their eye balls with respect to the league championship. A couple of key losses to Albion Park this year are probably the difference between the two top teams. If they are going to continue to mount a challenge though, this is a must win game for the Sharks.

Balgownie on the other hand have only registered two wins all year and last week, they went down 2-0 to Port Kembla.

Woonona beat Balgownie 2-0 in the corresponding fixture back in Round 6 where Balgownie put up some good resistance. They will need more of the same however I feel they are going to have to do better than scoring just once in their last three games if they are going to have any chance here.

I do expect Woonona to win this game by two or three goals.

Helensburgh v Port Kembla @ Rex Jackson Oval - 2.00pm

Despite winning Division 2 last year, the ladies from the Burgh have found the transition to Division one anything but easy. They are sitting rock bottom with just one solitary point however the team have only managed to score three times all year.

Port Kembla still probably harbour hopes of making the top four and with that said, three points this week is a priority. Port Kembla managed to beat Helensburgh 1-0 in the previous meeting which must give Helensburgh some hope.

With their top four hopes on the line, I do expect to see a Port Kembla win but surely a good result for Helensburgh is not too far away.
