Five star performance for Balgownie Rangers

Balgownie thumped University five goals to nil, at Judy Masters Park on Saturday afternoon, and could’ve easily extended that gap were it not for some missed chances early in the match.

Balgownie opened the scoring within minutes of the opening whistle, when Mitchell Hoswell put it safely past University’s keeper.

The home team didn’t give any quarter despite their early lead; diffusing University’s attacking forms, and getting good ball to their own forwards.

University were unable to get themselves level with Balgownie, after initially squandering their time spent in in the forward half and not generating enough forward momentum from their own half.

But despite Balgownie’s drive for their second goal, University began to be able to withstand the pressure, and find some much-needed shape in their attack, with Abulsamin Lawal looking dangerous on the wing.

But while University showed signs of a potential leveller, Balgownie generated some pressurised defence, forcing the University forwards to rush their passes and take their shots from far outside the penalty box.

Balgownie on the other hand, were creating genuine opportunities every other time they ventured into University’s half, and Mitchell Hoswell once again found his way through the defence to extend the home team’s lead to two-nil.

The second half saw Balgownie stamp their authority on the match, with University once again unable to generate enough momentum to get them behind Balgownie’s defence.

Jordan Scott helped provide Balgownie with the mid-field dominance to mostly keep University pegged back in their own half, and while they were able to gain a degree of possession in the forward half, their options were limited by a lack of speed and creativity in the forwards.

It took under ten minutes for Balgownie to notch up their third goal, when Nicholas Morgan made a clean break and beat the keeper one on one.

Soon after, Matthew Bush pushed through the University defence once again to establish an insurmountable lead of four-nil.

While University were trying desperately to wind down the clock, Balgownie seemed intent on punishing the visitors even further, making a number of probing runs and backing them up with solid shots on goal.

To cap off a horror afternoon for University, substitute Ryan Beattie nudged the ball past his own keeper, giving the home crowd another reason to celebrate.

At the final whistle, Balgownie took the match resoundingly at five-nil, giving University plenty to work on for the remainder of the season.
