FEMALE FOOTBALL WEEK

As all FSC Competitions are in their final stages of preparation – female football is about to take Centre Stage.

Women’s football week commences on the 8th of March and runs until the 19th of March. Football South Coast plans to celebrate with numerous events to highlight the growing participating numbers in the sport.

Female Football Week is a fantastic initiative that celebrates and promotes opportunities available to girls and women to participate in football.

Last year saw record registration levels with over 100,000 females playing regularly for their clubs across the country making up 20% of the entire group participation.

Football South Coast aims to highlight its strong participation of female footballers in a week long celebration, starting at Macedonia Park on the 12th, show casing the region’s best senior, junior and grassroots players.

The day will kick off at 8:20am with the inaugural FSC Girls U12/13 Pre Season Tournament, giving the girls a hit out before the Junior Competition commences. At 3pm the Girls Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) will be on show with the Football South Coast (FSC) and Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) Under 10 girls playing a curtain raiser to the All Age Women’s All Star Match.

The All Stars match will be a highly anticipated game with both FSC and SSFA having club teams with success in the State Cup and Champion of Champions competitions over recent years. The match will see a player from every Division One club represented in the teams, as they fight for association bragging rights.

The celebration will conclude with the Annual Bonnie Lassie tournament being held at Macedonia Park.  Over 20 womens teams will play a number of shortened matches over both Saturday and Sunday serving as a great hit out before the season commences on April 2nd.  

The 2016 Grand final and State Cup Final champions Albion Park will be out looking for more silverware but will have to fight oFf League Champions and rival Tarrawanna for the first bragging right of the season. 

A record number of women will be participating over the week long celebration of football, highlighting the popularity and growth of womens football in the Illawarra.
