GREENACRES FUTSAL COMP

Final Futsal wrap for 2016

Tuesday the 7th of June marked the final day of the Greenacres Futsal season for 2016. After the Champions trophy and winner’s medallions where presentation to the winning team, The Disability Trust,  we strapped our boots on for the All Stars v Trust game. The champs took quick control of the match and fired in a number of goals in the opening minutes to indicate they were not holding  anything back. A number of strategic substitutions from All Stars coach John Wood steadied things somewhat and the supportive crowd of spectators saw the first couple of shots on goal from the All-Stars. By half time, however, the Trust team of their own All-Stars had a goal for every player in their side plus a few extras. Highlights came from the thunderbolts sent down from the powerful Mitch and some deft touches from the very skilful Pat. Not to be outdone, Scotty and John knocked in a couple each themselves.

By the second half, the All-Stars started to gel and were rewarded with a cracking goal from their mid-field striker Andy Dillon, his shot squeezing between the goalie and cross bar. With the Trust side on strict instructions from their coach Michael Norris to pass between every player before they could take a shot on goal, the match ups equalised significantly. This also included spectacular saves from Troy, Goktug, Riley and Pete during their tag team approach to covering All-Stars the goal.  The All-Stars then broke through with the full time whistle about to be blown, to score a wonderful goal from late replacement Peter O’Brien, his left footer seemingly parted the throng of players in its path. The final score was possibly 12-2 but to the players and supporters alike this didn’t matter much as the excellent play and sportsmanship was the aspect that shone through on the night. See you all next season!
