WGC CRANES AMATEUR ROUND 18 PREVIEW

Amateurs Division One

There’s two games remaining in the Amateur’s season and there is still a lot to play for at the top of the table.

Oak Flats are in pole position on 35 points but Uni Wolves and Fury FC are in hot pursuit just a single point behind. Port Kembla Pumas are also in with a shot at the league championship as they sit fourth on 32 points. Coasters FC are still in with a shot at the finals with just three points separating them from fourth place.

This weekend sees a host of games with finals implications. Uni Wolves and Fury FC meet at Judy Masters Oval in a game that could push one side out of championship contention. Meanwhile, Oak Flats take on the in-the-hunt Coasters FC and Port Kembla face off with strugglers Hogs FC.

The final round of the season will be a replay of the washed out Round Two and presents some exciting fixtures. Uni host Oak Flats in what could potentially be a championship decider. If results go their way this weekend Coasters FC could play their way into the finals with a win over Port Kembla in the last game. Fury FC will travel to take on the DU Pirates which could also see them take home the league championship.

Amateurs Division Two

Things are similarly wide open in the Amateur’s Second Division with four teams vying for the league championship with two games left.

Dandaloo Gurus hold the advantage heading into this weekend with a two point lead at the top. Warilla Hotel occupy second place while Mates Utd are in third a further two points back. Albion Park Cows round out the top four while Dapto Utd are an outside shot at the finals four points back in fifth.

Dapto Utd taking on Warilla Hotel is this weekend’s most interesting game with the other three sides hoping to gain three points over teams already out of the finals race. In the final round of the season Mates Utd take on the Albion Park Cows in a game that, depending on results, could have championship implications.

The title appears to be Dandaloo’s to lose as they face two teams in the lower half of the table to finish the season.

Amateurs Division Three

The Amateur’s Third Division poses an equally competitive championship race. Just five points separates the top five sides with two games remaining meaning one side could go from first to out of the finals in the space of two weeks.

Coledale Waves Pink and Sandon Point share first on 34 points with Coledale holding the advantage on goal difference. Three points back the Illawarra Stallions occupy third with Port Kembla Massive and the Warrawong Wizards holding fourth and fifth place respectively.

The Wizards face an uphill task to stay in contention for the championship this weekend as they face a Coledale side that hasn’t lost since round 10. Coledale will continue their tricky run to the end of the season when they face the Illawarra Stallions in the final round of the season. If they are to win the league championship they will certainly have to earn it.

Amateurs Division Four

The Fourth Division has its league champions in Russel Vale Utd but there are six teams vying for just four finals places.

Russel Vale made their way through the season undefeated and sit on 37 points; boasting the competitions best attack and defence with a goal difference of 28. The Oak Flats Flame are in second on 31 points while Uni Diggers are in third on 28.  Three points back is South Coast United in fourth while Wollongong City SLSC and the Enzed Brewers are in the hunt for a finals place tied on 24 points.

The Brewers and Wollongong City are faced with a tricky task to qualify as they take on Russel Vale and Oak Flats respectively this weekend. The last round of the season sees Uni Diggers host South Coast United in what could be a taster ahead of the finals series.

Amateurs Masters O/35s Division One

Five teams are challenging for a finals place in the O/35s First Division while two sides can still take home league championship glory.

Port Puma Kings are in pole position to claim the championship as they hold a three point gap over Russel Vale FC in second. Bulli Masters and Austinmer Beroccas sit third and fourth respectively while Coledale Waves A are an outside chance at the finals.

The Kings will take on fourth placed Austinmer this weekend in a tricky fixture for the team but in a slight reprieve they will face last placed Coasters FC (who are yet to earn a point this season) in the final round and would be in real trouble if they dropped points on the day. Russel Vale have two easy fixtures to end the season against Oak Flats Falcons and Bulli-Gibson Park Rangers and six points would keep them in contention for the championship. Coledale will need a win over Bulli-Gibson this weekend to set up an interesting fixture in the race for fourth in the final round when they take on Austinmer.

The top four seems pretty set but some final day drama could throw out some twists and turns.

Amateurs Masters O/35s Division Two

In the O/35s Second Division Dandaloo Hoodoos have taken home the league championship with two games to spare.

St Elias OB FC are tied with Northern FC for second on 29 points with Kemblawarra Krocs a point back on 28. Sweat Hogs are still in the hunt for a finals berth in fifth place with 26 points.

The Sweat Hogs have a chance to leapfrog into Kemblawarra this weekend as the two sides face off while second and third meet to decide the finals order. The last round sees a tough matchup for Kemblawarra again as they take on Northern FC in what could be a must win game if they want to appear in the finals.

Dandaloo will be favourites for the finals but it’s worth noting they have struggled against the other top sides in the competition in recent weeks.

Amateurs Masters O/35s Division Three

Things remain tight at the top of the O/35s Third Division with five teams in contention for the finals.

With two games left, the Burgh Hogs are first with a three point buffer over the Wollongong City Vipers. Figtree Titans are a further point back and still with an outside chance at the league championship. Meanwhile, Coniston Veterans and Fernhill FC are vying for the final playoffs spot with both teams tied on 26 points.

None of the top three sides have an easy run-in with Burgh Hogs needing to play Figtree in the final round with a trip to sixth placed DU FC Phoenix coming this weekend. Wollongong City take on Coniston Veterans in a tough fixture this weekend but have an easier task in the final round when they play last placed Jamberoo Redbacks.
