Shell Cove FC 5 – 2 Berkeley Sports

Four goals in the first half helped league leaders Shell Cove cruise to a 5-2 win over Berkeley Sports at Myimbarr Park on Saturday.

Shell Cove hit the lead when Ile Kostovski found the back of the net in the 17th minute before Jacob Miller doubled the lead just two minutes later. Kostovski and Miller were at it again a few minutes later when Kostovski scored his second of the game in the 30th minute and then Miller, again just two minutes later, also grabbed his second.

Another two goals in as many minutes kicked off the second half, this time from Berkeley’s Adam White who found the back of the net in the 52nd minute before striking again in the 54th to bring the score back to 4-2. Shell Cove managed to hold Berkeley at bay until Goran Nikolovski scored their 5th and final goal in the 90th minute to wrap up the match.

UOW FC 2 – 5 Helensburgh Thistle

Helensburgh pulled themselves to the edge of finals contention with an emphatic 5-2 victory of UOW at Kooloobong Oval on Saturday.

Both teams took time to settle before a spurt of goals just before the half time whistle. Jason Wellings set the wheels in motion when he scored Helensburgh’s first goal in the 36th minute but Ross Graham was on hand to draw the sides’ level just three minutes later. The two teams traded blows again moments later when Branko Tesanovic scored for Helensburgh in the 44th minute and in the same minute, Luke Vandenbergh brought the sides level again. A thrilling first half ended with the sides locked at 2-2.

It didn’t take long after the restart for Helensburgh to retake the lead as Gary Cassidy found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Nathan Mucci pushed Thistle’s lead out to two goals with a strike in the 75th minute before substitute Hayden Garrard wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.

Oak Flats Falcons 1 – 5 Warilla Wanderers

A first half red card to the Falcon’s Liam Gallo helped Warilla to a 5-1 win over Oak Flats at Keith Bond Oval on Saturday. Chad Keating was the pick of the performances with a fine hat-trick on the day.

Oak Flats were on the scoresheet first when young striker Sam Markoulis found the back of the net in just the 5th minute. The goal was wiped out just five minutes later when James Eldred scored Warilla’s first of the game. Gallo was given his marching orders in the 22nd minute and it turned out to be a pivotal moment in the match. Keating was the first to convert on the numbers advantage when he scored his first in the 42nd minute before scoring again in the 45th for a 3-1 Warilla lead.

Luke Greathead was first to score in the second half when he netted in the 57th minute; making it seven straight games with a goal for the attacker. Warilla controlled the game for the rest of the match before Keating put the icing on the cake with his third in the 90 +3 minute.

 

Kiama Quarriers 1 – 2 Wests Illawarra

Wests Illawarra secured a vital three points over fellow strugglers Kiama at Kiama on Saturday. Two goals from Daniel Djukic proved to be enough to seal the win for Wests on the day.

Promoted from Youth Grade, Djukic opened the scoring in the 18th minute before netting again in the 37th minute to give Wests a 2-0 lead at half time.

Damien Counter pulled a goal back for Kiama just after the restart but it wasn’t enough as Wests held on for the 2-1 win.

Balgownie Rangers 1 – 1 Thirroul Thunder

A thrilling final moments of the game saw Balgownie earn a draw with Thirroul at Judy Masters Oval on Saturday.

A slow first half saw neither side able to score as it remained 0-0 at the break.

Thirroul were able to break the deadlock in the 57th minute when Nathan Smith found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Balgownie were scrambling for an equaliser for the remainder of the match and the breakthrough finally came with just four minutes left. Andrew Harrower came off the bench to get the levelling goal and earn a draw. A red card to Mark Scott in the 90th minute put a dampener on the result for Balgownie.

Coniston Lions 1- 1 Kemblawarra

Two goals in as many minutes in the first half were the only scores in a 1-1 draw between Coniston and Kemblawarra at JJ Kelly Park on Saturday.

Coniston took the lead in the 35th minute when Matthew Evers slotted the ball home. The Lions weren’t able to hold the lead for long; however, as Kemblawarra’s Michael Oliveira found the equaliser just a minute later.

Neither side could break the other down for the remainder of the game as it finished with honours even.

Picton Rangers 0 – 0 Corrimal Rangers

New Corrimal boss Richard Lloyd was given a tough introduction to the league with a 0-0 draw against Picton at Hume Oval on Saturday.

Both Goal Keepers, Brad Joes (Picton) & Jacob Madden (Corrimal) were in fine form and were instrumental in the game remaining score-less.
The result leaves both sides tied for third on 39 points and was a good indicator of just how close the top of the table is this season.
