ILLAWARRA CREDIT UNION DISTRICT LEAGUE WRAP ROUND 3

Shell Cove maintained their 100% start to the season with a thrilling four goals to three victory over a luckless Wests Illawarra at Unanderra Oval.

Wests opened the scoring courtesy of a Daniel Vasilevski goal on 17 minutes which was cancelled out by a Goran Nikolovski 37th minute goal for a half time score line of one-one.

Early in the second stanza, Shell Cove appeared to take a stranglehold on the game when they took a two goal lead on the back of goals from Ile Kostovski (46’) and Tom Markovski (55’) but they didn’t count on a terrific fight back by the home side who were back on level terms with two goals in five minutes from Kon Kandilas (72’) & Brad Burleigh (77’).

Just when it looked like the two teams would have to settle for a point after a gripping encounter, Jason Milosevski proved to be the man for the moment when he snatched a winner for the visitors two minutes from time to break the hearts of a spirited Wests team.

Two other unbeaten sides after three rounds, Oak Flats Falcons and Picton Rangers, fought out another absorbing contest at Keith Bond Oval with the two sides settling for a share of the points in a two all draw.

The Falcons held the early upper hand and a Jonathan Passanante brace mid-way through the opening half had the home side in control at the interval.

It was a different story after the break with the Rangers fighting back magnificently to claim a point on the back of a Benjamin Roberts 65th minute strike and a last gasp stoppage time equaliser from substitute, Tim Rupprecht.

Rangers Coach, Brett Morley would have been extremely pleased with a point away from home, given that he was missing a few of his key players including 2013 Player of the Year Aidan Matthews.

Two unbeaten teams, Corrimal Rangers and UOW FC clashed in a Friday Night fixture at Memorial Park but despite the best efforts of both sides, neither team was able to find a goal between them with the game finishing scoreless.

At JJ Kelly Park, there was another tight contest between Coniston Lions and Kiama Quarriers that produced another late winner.

There was very little between the two sides and it was another substitute, Steve Parkes who stole the limelight with a 90+3 minute winner with the only goal of the game for the Quarriers.

Over at Albert Butler Park, two sides, Kemblawarra & Helensburgh Thistle faced off, both searching for their first win of the season.

Kemblawarra led for much of the game through a 20th minute goal from Damian Jorge and would have been very disappointed not to get something from the encounter conceding three goals in the last 18 minutes to go down three goals to one.

Two goals in five minutes from Grant McDonald (72’ 77’) broke the resolve of the home side before Luke Van Zyl made the points safe with his contribution six minutes from the end.

Warilla Wanderers kept pace with the leaders with a solid four goals to two victory over Balgownie Rangers at King Mickey Park.

After leading by two goals at half time, the game was as good as over just after the hour mark with the Wanderers lead out to four.

Matthew Cesta (21’ 63’) and Scott Friedwald (34’ 61’) were the chief destroyers for the home side before the Rangers, despite being behind ‘the eight ball’ responded with two late goals from substitute Kieran Duggan (79’ 84’).

In the day’s other game, Thirroul FC and Berkeley Sports were involved in a hard fought one all draw at Gibson Park.

There was not a lot between the two sides on the day and a draw was probably a fair result with Andrew Bradshaw (Thunder) and Dylan Evans (Sports) being the respective goal scorers.
