SEASON PREVIEW: WARILLA WANDERERS

The Wanderers have endured some major changes to their club this year both on and off the field. With the bulk of the committee calling time on their involvement with the club, the new committee has an enormous task to ensure a repeat of last season’s success which saw them take out the Grand Final.

On the field, the club have lost playmaker Paul Gaffney who has decided to play socially this year. The Hunter brothers returned to Fernhill and Luke Greathead and Chad Keating both have signed with crosstown rivals Oak Flats Falcons.

Their new signings include goalkeeper Valon Rizvani (from Port Pumas), Kaine Good and Jamie Young (from Shoalhaven), veteran Nathan Peglar (from Berkeley Sports), and Tim White (from Jervis Bay). The club signed former Albion Park White Eagles attacker Daniel Ferraro however an injury in the Fraternity Club Cup has all but ruled him out for the season.

The good news is that coach Barney King is back and if anyone can instil some belief and competitiveness in a side, it is him. Barrney’s track record speaks for itself and one would not be ruling Warilla Wanderers out just yet.

So much will rest on the shoulders of Bojan Caric, Javier Ovando and Adrian Montalbano amongst others as the club looks to launch its tilt for an elusive Premiership win starting with a home match against Helensburgh Thistle.

Warilla started their Fraternity Club Cup slowly but finished their group stage strong to sneak through as group winners however they were unravelled by a rampant Coniston FC in the semi-final.

I feel the season will hinge on a few key games for the Wanderers. I am predicting a top three finish but I feel the team will need to start strong across the first quarter of the season if they are going to be a serious contender.
