WARATAH/FFA CUP UPDATE

Of the seven local teams that entered the 2015 Waratah Cup in a bid to qualify for the national FFA Cup competition, six still stand heading into the fifth round.

Albion Park White Eagles were the only team to taste defeat in the fourth round as they were bundled out by NSW NPL2 side Sydney Uni.

Bulli progressed to the fifth round after an 11-1 drubbing of Sutherland-based Bonnet Bay FC, with striker Ben McDonald helping himself to an impressive seven goals.

They’ve now been handed a fifth round home tie against Sydney Uni, who staged a remarkable comeback against Albion Park White Eagles to run out 4-3 winners in the previous round.

A win over Sydney Uni, would set up a potential round six clash with NPL1 powerhouses Rockdale City Suns.

Dapto Dandaloo Fury are still waiting to play their fourth round match.

They will play the winner of Kellyville Kolts and Northbridge Mariners, who meet to play their delayed, third round tie at Valentine Park on Wednesday, 8th April.

If they are to progress to the fifth round, they will meet Hurstville Minotaurs who easily dispatched of Leppington Lions 6-1 in the fourth round.

Port Kembla had an easy fourth round victory, winning 4-nil on the road against Carlton Rovers FC.

In the fifth round they welcome Sutherland Sharks to Wetherall Park after the NSW NPL1 side hammered league rivals, Marconi Stallions 5-0.

If they can upset Sutherland, a sixth round tie against Wollongong United could be on the cards for the black and whites.

Wollongong United ground out a hard-fought 1-nil victory over State league 1 outfit Stanmore Hawks, in the fourth round.

Another State League 1 side awaits them in the fifth round when they face Inter Lions SC at home.  Inter Lions had to overcome Auburn FC 5-4 on penalties after the match finished two-all at the end of extra time.

In the penultimate NSW qualifying round, they will meet either Sutherland Sharks or face a local derby against Port Kembla.

Woonona put their 8-nil drubbing at the hands of Dapto Dandaloo behind them to continue their cup run against Sydney CBD in the fourth round.

A comprehensive 3-nil victory in that match has now set up a fifth round away clash at Hawkesbury City SC.  The State League 1 outfit ran out 1-nil winners over NPL2 side St George FC in what was one of the biggest upsets of the fourth round.

A victory over Hawkesbury City SC would set up a likely sixth round clash at Ocean Park against Hakoah Sydney City East, who currently sit second in the NSW NPL2.

The South Coast Wolves faced a tricky away game against the Mount Druitt Town Rangers in their fourth round tie.

A Peter Simonoski strike in extra time was enough to seal a 3-2 victory for the Wolves after the sides were locked in a 2-all stalemate after 90 minutes.

A home tie against Sprirt FC of the NSW NPL2 now awaits the Wolves in the fifth round and victory here would see them move to the penultimate round of qualifying to face off against either Bonnyrigg White Eagles or Sydney Olympic.

Teams representing the region will be in action for the FFA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, 15th April.
