ILLAWARRA CREDIT UNION DL ROUND 25 WRAP

Match of the Week

UOW FC 3 – 4 Oak Flats Falcons

Sam Markoulis came off the bench to score three goals in three minutes to secure a come from behind win for Oak Flats over UOW at Kooloobong Oval on Saturday. The Falcons were able to earn the win despite a red card to David Kiss for denying a goal scoring opportunity in the 71st minute.

Lochlainn Ryan got things underway early with a goal in just the 7th minute for UOW but the strike was wiped out 20 minutes later when Alex Bausch found the back of the net. The two sides remained locked at 1-1 when the half time whistle blew.

Uni retook the lead in the 65th minute through Craig Wood but then came Markoulis into the fray. The young striker netted his first in the 75th minute before giving Oak Flats the lead just a minute later with his second. Markoulis wrapped up his hat-trick in the 78th minute while Tobias Williams added another for UOW in the same minute. It wasn’t enough, however, as the Falcons held on for the win.

Rest of the Round

Balgownie Rangers 0 – 6 Picton Rangers

Picton continued their fantastic goal scoring efforts with a 6-0 drubbing of Balgownie at Judy Masters Oval on Saturday.

Gary Seymour set the tone early with a goal in the 7th minute before Bean Realph made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later. Seymour was on the score sheet again in the 28th minute and was shortly followed by Realph again as he made it 4-0 just before the half time break.

Benjamin Roberts kicked off the second half in similar fashion with a goal in the 48th minute before grabbing his second and wrapping up the day’s scoring in the 56th minute. Roberts now has 16 goals for the season.

Corrimal Rangers 4 – 1 Kemblawarra

Corrimal all but confirmed their place in the finals with their fourth straight win as they beat Kemblawarra at a soggy Memorial Park on Saturday.

Luke Picciolini opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with what proved to be the opening half’s only goal for a 1-0 Corrimal lead.

A pair of goals early in the second half gave Rangers a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. Daniel Pisani was first to score in the 49th minute before Stephen Draper added another just two minutes later. Dinis Guerreiro pulled one back for Kemblawarra in the 79th minute but it wasn’t enough as Nick Tortorella came off the bench to claim Corrimal’s fourth goal in the 92nd minute to cap the win.

Helensburgh Thistle 0 – 3 Kiama Quarriers

Kiama continued their positive end to the season with a 3-0 away win over Helensburgh at Rex Jackson Oval on Saturday. Both sides were reduced to ten men on the day with the Thistle’s Grant McDonald and Quarriers’s James Donlan given their marching orders.

A quiet opening half hour was broken when Jacob Lester found the back of the net just before the half time break.

Chris Christodoulou scored his ninth goal of the season in the 65th minute for a 2-0 Kiama lead before Damien Counter wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute.

The other three games scheduled for last Saturday were washed out as a result of the big wet and re-scheduled for this Sunday which is supposed to be the last weekend of Competition Football. That remains to be seen, with all the heavy rain that has engulfed the Illawarra over the last 10 days.
