DPL award winners announced

Nate Wilkins. Dennis Thornton. Luke Stewart. Matt Donaldson. Zach Williams-Hook.

The list of previous DUNK Basketball Uniforms Premier League MVPs is imposing, and nobody has yet to earn a double amongst a constantly improving talent pool.

This trend continues in to the sixth season of the DPL after the ‘Black Mamba’ Chol Muorter was voted in as the league’s newest Most Valuable Player.

A key piece of the Northside Wizards recent back-to-back SBL Finals appearances, Muorter’s agility and scoring prowess has been a vital component to the Blazers’ return to the DPL playoffs. His 74 votes pipped Brendale Bobcats forward Matt Donaldson who tallied 68 and not far behind was Vladimir Rapaic who notched 62 for league newcomers Brisbane White Eagles.

The experienced Kyle Kiernan (Grizzlies) polled 48 votes to round out the All-League First Team along with Josh Potter (ISO) on 39.

Ducks’ Fraser Lowrie was the bolter in awards voting. The netball international polled 20 votes topping Defensive voting, just above returnee Wes Rand (Raptors) who scored 19.

Hayden Burrow (Brendale Bobcats) was also restored to the Defensive 1st Team, which was filled out by Zach Williams-Hook (Raptors) and Muorter who deservedly notched a rare 1st team pairing.

In a fresh category created to recognise the league’s on-court officials, Sam Johnson was named as Player’s Choice Best Referee.
