Sport in SA acclaims our stars, heroes and champions at the Home of South Australian Sport.

Last night sporting dignitaries and friends celebrated the 2016 KPMG South Australian Sport Awards at Adelaide Oval.

 

Sport was on the stage for all South Australians to enjoy as we celebrated the seventh year of the KPMG South Australian Sport Awards on Thursday 17th. November at the Adelaide Oval. The Sport SA Awards; The Advertiser Channel Seven Sports Star of the Year Awards and our history with The KPMG South Australian Sport Hall of Fame were presented with 435 people at the Gala Event hosted by Mark Soderstrom and Jessica Adamson from Channel Seven.

Last night sporting dignitaries and friends celebrated the 2016 KPMG South Australian Sport Awards at Adelaide Oval.

 

Sport was on the stage for all South Australians to enjoy as we celebrated the seventh year of the KPMG South Australian Sport Awards on Thursday 17th. November at the Adelaide Oval. The Sport SA Awards; The Advertiser Channel Seven Sports Star of the Year Awards and our history with The KPMG South Australian Sport Hall of Fame were presented with 435 people at the Gala Event hosted by Mark Soderstrom and Jessica Adamson from Channel Seven. 

In 2016, the KPMG South Australian Sport Hall of Fame honour roll is now 56 inductees with Greg Chappell MBE (Cricket), Jenny Cheesman AM (Multisport -Basketball & Softball), Matthew Cowdrey OAM (Paralympic Swimming), Ken Farmer (SANFL), Julie Francou (Netball) Jan Stirling AM (Basketball) joining this distinguished  group.  For the first time since 2011, there are 2 new Legends Victor Richardson OBE (Multi Sport) and Gillian Rolton OAM (Equestrian)who have been promoted to the highest from the outstanding South Australian sportsmen and women. 

The Advertiser Channel Seven Sports Star of the Year and Junior Sports Star of the Year; Kyle Chalmers has enjoyed an outstanding year after his Rio Olympics Gold medal 100m. Freestyle and Bronze Relay swims. Team of the Year; Adelaide United, winners of the A League and the People’s Choice; Jess Trengove.  West Beach Community Branch, Bendigo Bank Elite Athlete with a Disability of the Year; Brayden Davidson a gold medallist at Rio Paralympics. Tanya Denver Award for Endeavour and Sportsmanship; Libby Kosmala (Paralympian)

The team behind our  athletes’ success received appropriate accolades with the Sport SA Awards representing many sports from the Arthur J. Gallagher Administrator of the Year, Michael Carter (FFSA – Soccer); Coach of the Year Peter Bishop (Swimming);  Sunday Mail City Bay Fun Run Inc. Volunteer Award  John Holland (Dragon boating) ; Club One Official of the Year Glenn Errington (Table Tennis) ; Country Athlete of the Year; Aidan Stock (Hockey) Significant Event of the Year; Hancock Prospecting Swimming Australia Olympic Trials.  Community Event of the Year; Dragons Down Under Adelaide 2016. Our school sport champions, Richard Newman Primary School Sports Award – Sponsored by the Department for Education & Child Development; Ben Hinks ( Sailing),and the Secondary School Sports Award – Sponsored by Messenger Community News Limited, Liam Bektic ( Swimming)

The Margaret Ralston ‘Golden Door’ AM Award presented for the second time to Lois Quarrell (dec.) who was a pioneer in sports journalism at The Advertiser and women’s sport.

“We are delighted to celebrate sport’s achievements and the people who underpin these, from on the fields, courts and pool, in the offices, training venues and schools with you. Sport SA showcases the success stories of our sport and will ensure that we record and acclaim these achievements to inspire and motivate.
