Lady Hawks Add Kiwi Star

The Ringwood Lady Hawks have officially completed their playing roster for the new NBL1 season after securing the services of New Zealand and Perth Lynx Co-Captain Toni Farnworth.

Basketball has been quite a journey for Farnworth (nee Edmondson) who picked up the sport as a kid in Christchurch and progressed to playing the game at the highest level. As a professional, Farnworth has been all over the World but has played much of her career in Australia with stints at Perth Lynx, West Coast Waves, Adelaide Lightning and Dandenong Rangers to name a few.

With Farnworth’s husband Josh being relocated to Melbourne for work, the Hawks were quick to pounce on the opportunity to add her to the roster. Hawks Assistant Coach Ben Draper had a previous relationship with Farnworth and the rest was history.

“Toni is a great teammate and will provide the team with a proven scorer and leader.” Draper said.

“We are excited to get her in to our program from seniors to juniors.”

Standing at close to 6 feet tall, Farnworth is considered a tall guard and regarded as one of the WNBL’s top defensive players. The 31 year old is still at the top of her game and will be an invaluable acquisition in the NBL1 for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Hawks season will tip off on Saturday March 30th when they host the Australian Centre of Excellence, formally known as the Australian Institute of Sport.
