Odds Are No Barrier For Hawks Ramos

For Ringwood Hawks newest import signing Dezz Ramos, proving people wrong and defying the odds has been something that she has enjoyed doing since she first started playing Basketball as a little girl. In 2018, Ramos takes another step in her life journey as she travels to Ringwood to try and lead the Hawks back in to Championship contention.

In Basketball terms, Ramos who stands at 5’7 (170cm) is small in stature but her impact in the game has been remarkable. Last year Ramos completed her philosophy degree at highly regarded Division one School San Jose State, and impressively has been described by the School as simply the greatest pure scorer in their history.

If you like records and honors, Ramos has plenty. As a senior she was First Team All-Conference, All Tournament Team selection, All-Time Single Season scoring Leader and on and on it goes. Ramos scoring average of 23.5 points per game are numbers rarely seen on the National stage of Women’s College Basketball. She is a rare talent and a terrific find by Hawks Coach Tim Mottin who has put together an exciting roster for 2018.

The road to professional Basketball for Ramos has been like no other. With a Samoan and Mexican heritage, the determined guard became the first of 30 Grandkids to earn a College degree. She credits her cousin Joshua Ama, who sadly passed away at only 27 years of age, as her greatest motivation and support.

“I was very close to Josh, and in honor of him I went and got a tattoo of a wing.” Ramos said.

“It stands as a reminder to keep striving to be the best I can be.”

Australia is a place that will be new for Ramos but she is excited to experience everything that it has to offer. The weather and the Basketball are the two most appealing aspects for Ramos but she also has another focus that she hopes she will bring to the Hawks.

“I really hope to be able to have an impact on the younger Hawks kids that are in the program." she said.

“I try to be a great role model for the game I fell in love with when I was a kid."

Ramos is due into arrive in the Country on the 21st January and will be straight to work with the Hawks other import players at a kids Summer Skills Day Camp on the 23rd January.
