Rockets Girls win over South in thrilling first finals game

The North Adelaide Women’s Premier League team have shown clearly why they are second on the ladder with an exciting comeback against South on Saturday night.

The first quarter was very close with lots of ball pressure and therefore many fouls. The starting five of Jamie-Lee, Jo, Kirsty, Lauren and Shannon dominated playing time, as they went to the break down, 11 to 15.

The Rockets fought back in a fierce second quarter, with at one stage south leading by 14 points, after a time out from the coach the girl’s again responded well going to the long break with the score at 35 all from Sarah scoring on the buzzer.

The third quarter was very intense with good close defence from both teams and the Rockets put the pressure on and started the quarter with an 8-0 run, scoring 24 in the quarter and keeping south to 12 points, looking strong and determined on court.

The fourth quarter was exciting, South got within 4 points early in the quarter as the Rockets showed great skill with Lauren Badenoch scoring 10 of her 14 points in the last quarter to maintain their lead, with a final score of 80 to 67.

Jo Hill top scoring with 21 points and 8 rebounds, Jamie Lee Peris 15 point and 15 rebounds, Sarah Elsworthy and Lauren Badenoch both scoring 14 points and Shannon McKay also in double digits with 12 points.

They now face the to date, undefeated Norwood Flames at Mars Stadium Saturday night, 630pm. Come along and cheer our team straight into the grand final!
