Star performers:

It’s been said many times this season but retirement from international basketball has not slowed Brett Stibners down. Averaging 24.1 points per game Stibners looks to distribute as much as he does shoot. He’s currently the leading scorer and rebounder in the league and is most comfortable beyond the arc, also leading the league in three pointers made, and shooting percentage from three point range.

Luke Pople has taken another taken his game forward to press his claims for Rollers berth. He is the best scoring 2.0/2.5 in the country and if he can bump his assist numbers up he’ll add a little bit more unpredictability to his game and probably find his scoring opportunities increase as a result.

Report Card:

Wollongong dropped a game to QLD in Round 5 but bounced back the following day to essentially lock up second place on the NWBL ladder. They’ve lacked a little bit of stability in their line-ups with player availabilities but continue to win games regardless.

Brad Fisher and Tim Markcrow probably haven’t played the minutes that you’d expect this season but both only turn 21 in 2013 and have plenty of good basketball ahead of them.

A full strength Wollongong is still the team to beat. They’ve proved that in consecutive seasons and have added Rollers starter Jannik Blair to their list for the remainder of the season and will be doing everything they can to qualify him for finals.

Retaining that hunger when you’re on top can be a challenge and round 5’s ‘no damage done’ loss to QLD might just be the spark they needed to ignite their run into the 2013 finals series.
