NWBL’s Big Guns

Bump into someone on the street and mention that you’re involved somehow in wheelchair basketball and they’ll immediately say; “Oh those guys are strong” or “Some of those guys have huge arms”. That’s the stereotype of wheelchair basketball players and probably rightfully so.

In the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) we have been doing our best to keep the stereotype alive.

For a long time, Tristan Knowles (Wollongong Rollerhawks) has been the poster child for scoped guns in the NWBL. He dead set needs a licence to carry those things around in public.

Call them what you will though; the biggest arms, the best arms, heavy artillery… whatever you call them, the last couple of years it’s been very clear that Knowles now has some competition in Perth big man Adam Deans and Dandenong low Jannik Blair. Those boys have some serious pipes on them.

“Interesting fact: Adam Deans once got suspended from school for carrying around a six pack and two guns…” (NB fact may or may not be true)

It seems that Will Ferrell’s “two tickets to the gun show” quote from Anchorman is now obsolete when referencing the NWBL as you’ll need four tickets to this show.

Which leads me to ask the question, who do you rate as having the best arms in the NWBL?

  • Tristan Knowles (Wollongong Rollerhawks)
  • Adam Deans (Be Active Perth Wheelcats)
  • Jannik Blair (Dandenong Rangers)
