ROUND 6 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Stepping up in the absence of Tom O’Neill-Thorne and Jake Fulwood, Jordan Bartley led the Queensland Spinning Bullets to a sweep of the Adelaide Thunder in Round 6 while claiming the Player of the Week.

Bartley did a bit of everything on court for the Spinning Bullets and came close to recording a triple-double in the second and third meetings, finishing with an average of 13.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, six assists and 2.3 steals per game for Round 6.

On Friday night in their first contest against the Thunder, Bartley hit the scoreboard early to set the tone for Queensland but the team’s depth shone through as they had a range of scorers help defeat Adelaide 69-63.

Bartley flirted with a double-double, collecting 11 points and eight rebounds as his attacking style resulted in several free-throws while he was also a strong presence at the defensive end with two steals.

The following night, Bartley again reached double-digits in scoring alongside three team mates to finish with ten points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

With just a three-point lead at the last change, he helped Queensland pull away for an 11-point victory with three assists on the Spinning Bullets’ first three baskets of the final term while also hitting four clutch free-throws down the stretch.

In their third and final contest on Sunday, Bartley was again impressive in getting to the free-throw line and maintained his impressive shooting stroke, nailing 9-10 from the charity stripe.

Add that to a three-pointer early in the second quarter and Bartley was able to score a round-high 20 points as Queensland claimed their most comfortable win of the weekend, 73-58.

It started with a 20-9 opening term which saw Bartley score five points and then, with Queensland leading by only five points at three-quarter time he once controlled proceedings in the final term.

Bartley had six points and three assists in the space of five minutes as he was directly responsible for 12 straight Queensland points which pushed the score-line out of Adelaide’s reach and following one last steal on Jay Dohnt, Bartley was able to sit out the final two minutes of the weekend.

The Spinning Bullets are back up to second place on the ladder but with two games in each of the last three rounds still to come, their position in the top four is not secure just yet.

Jordan Bartley Round 6 Stats: 13.7 points on 12-35 (34%) shooting including 16-27 free-throw shooting, 7.3 rebounds (two offensive), six assists and 2.3 steals per game.
