Waiting game for Gliders after Dutch delight

Finishing with a 3-1 record, the Gliders now have an agonising wait to see where they will rank in their pool and who they will face in the Quarter Finals.

Currently top of the pool, the Gliders are a win clear of both the Dutch and Canadians, with their two rivals still to play their final preliminary fixtures.

The Netherlands, who have a points differential of +29 (Gliders are +31), face bottom of the pool Brazil, while Canada (+10) take on hosts Great Britain. Results going against the Gliders could see them drop to third in the group and potentially meet the USA in their crossover game.

In a hard-fought contest the Gliders got the early jump on their opponents and never looked back, increasing a six-point quarter time lead to 10 points at the main interval.

Young gun Amber Merritt again made an impact off the bench, scoring a game-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting, giving the Gliders the offensive spark that could prove the difference in the knockout rounds.

Cobi Crispin added 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Shelly Chaplin was again the key playmaker with 7 assists.

The third quarter was not one for the purists, but saw Australia maintain a double-digit lead heading into the final period. This lead was never breached, giving the Gliders win number three of the tournament.

The Gliders will find out their Quarter Final opponents after the final preliminary fixtures to be played in the early hours of tomorrow morning (AEST).
