Rollers cruise past Spain as USA awaits

The 16-point win has the Rollers sitting pretty on top of their preliminary pool and destined for top-seeding for next week’s Quarter Finals.

It was a white-hot Shaun Norris who was the star for the Rollers, scoring a game-high 25 points on an outstanding 11-of-14 shooting from the field. The 27-year-old added 6 rebounds and 5 assists for good measure.

Norris was well supported by Justin Eveson, who compiled the impressive stats sheet of 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists.

The duo have been offensive juggernauts for the Rollers, averaging 17.3 points per game apiece in the early fixtures of the tournament.

The Rollers came out of the gates strong and held a handy five-point lead at the end of the first quarter. This was extended well into double figures in the second period as the real quality of the Australians came to the fore.

Spain were left 17 points behind at the main interval as the Rollers won the quarter 24-12, and all but killed the game off as a contest.

Focus now turns to the USA for the Rollers as they prepare to face Australia’s arch nemesis at 4:00am AEST tomorrow morning. The USA has the wood over Australian basketball in recent times, with both the Jayco Opals and Boomers knocked out the Olympic Games by the Americans.
