SEASON PREVIEW: SYDNEY METRO BLUES

SYDNEY METRO BLUES

Last Year: 0 wins, 15 losses, 6th

Roster: Jessica Cronje, Richard Engles, Colin Smith, Rhys Baxter, Georgia Munro-Cook, Darren Skuse, John McPhail, Yara Ryan, Josh Meoli, Ben Meoli, Clarence McCarthy-Grogran.

Fixture:
The Blues have the honour of opening the 2017 season this weekend and they will be looking to beat their record from last season with only one game against a 2016 medallist through the first weekend. They then play their final seven games of the regular season at home.

Overview:
Coached by legend Troy Sachs, the Blues will be desperate to get on the winners list early after not recording a victory last season. CJ McCarthy-Grogan is coming off a college Championship, having tallied 13 points and eight rebounds in the final to help clinch the title while he was also the team’s leading scorer in 2016 with 12.6 points per game. Australian Gliders Jess Cronje and Georgia Munro-Cook will need to take over more of the scoring duties and maintain their assists if Sydney Metro are to match it with the better teams of the league while their newcomers will also need to make a splash.

One To Watch:
Darren Skuse. A well known scorer in the past, Skuse showed he is just as dominant on the boards last season when he finished second for rebounding with 9.4 per game. He tallied four double-doubles for the year including a very strong performance of 21 points and 19 rebounds against the Wheelcats while shooting 35% from the field overall. His presence in the paint will be needed again this year if the Blues are to improve on last year’s mark.

Prediction:
Bottom Three.
