SEASON PREVIEW: QUEENSLAND SPINNING BULLETS

QUEENSLAND SPINNING BULLETS

Last Year: 5 wins, 10 losses, 5th

Roster: Ella Sabljak, Daniel Anstey, Bailey Rowland, Steven Elliott, Jake Fulwood, Matt McShane, Jordan Bartley, Kurt Thomas, Tom O’Neill-Thorne.

Fixture:
Season 2017 tips off when the Spinning Bullets face the Sydney Metro Blues at 5pm on Friday night. They only play one finalist from last season in the first round and then will enjoy a home stand through Rounds 2-4 of five consecutive games which is only broken up by a bye in Round 3.

Overview:
The Spinning Bullets will be keen to atone for last year when they narrowly missed out on a finals berth despite finishing on the same amount of wins as fourth-placed Red Dust. A relatively young list by comparison to the rest of the league, Queensland still have a number of internationally proven stars including Ella Sabljak, Rio Paralympian Matt McShane as well as Bailey Rowland, Steven Elliott and Jake Fulwood who all helped the Under-23 Spinners qualify for this year’s World Championships. Without Bill Latham or Nicholas Radovich who were two of their top three scorers last year, the Bullets will look to the likes of Jordan Bartley to take over more of the offensive duties in 2017.

One To Watch:
Tom O’Neill-Thorne. Rio Paralympian and captain of the Spinners as they qualified for the World Champs, O’Neill-Thorne is a proven competitor who still has a lot of room for growth at the age of 20. He will be the Spinners on-court leader again this year after finishing season 2016 third in the league for points per game (25.9), fourth for rebounds (9.1) and second for assists (7.2) in an outstanding campaign.

Prediction:
Bottom Three.
