Rollers and Gliders gear up for World Challenge

The Rollers and Gliders, Australia’s national wheelchair basketball teams, take on some of the world’s best sides ahead of the 2012 London Paralympics in the 2012 Rollers and Gliders World Challenge in Sydney next month.

Over four action-packed days, from 18-21 July at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, Australia’s premier wheelchair basketballers will come up against some of the top-ranked opposition they will face in London.

For the reigning Paralympic and World Champion Rollers, our men’s wheelchair basketball team, they will fine tune their preparations against London hosts Great Britain and Asian superpower Japan.

The success of the past four years will ensure the Rollers head to London as the Gold Medal favourites, with the chasing pack eager to put a dent in their hopes of back-to-back Paralympic titles.

It is an equally daunting task for our Gliders, our women’s wheelchair basketball team, they will face Gold Medal favourites Germany along with China and Japan.

Fresh from an impressive tour of Europe, which included two wins over reigning Paralympic and World Champions the USA, the Gliders claimed a Silver Medal at the London warm-up event, the Paralympic World Cup.

Our women will have their chance to avenge the Gold Medal game loss to Germany when the two teams do battle in Sydney.

The 2012 Rollers and Gliders World Challenge runs from 18-21 July at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

Tickets are expected to go on sale later this week.
