ROUND 8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Already a known scorer in the NWBL as well as at international level, Shaun Norris proved his all-round play-making ability in Round 8 as he helped the Be Active Perth Wheelcats split their weekend against the Kilsyth Cobras.

His third Player of the Week nomination, Norris averaged 23 points, eight rebounds, 17 assists and 1.5 steals while once again playing every minute of the two contests for Perth.

On Saturday night, Kilsyth jumped out of the blocks to lead by as much as 19 in the first half term but Norris caught fire in the second period to keep the Wheelcats within striking distance.

Within a two and a half minute period, he nailed three long-distance shots in the middle of his own 11-point run which also included a steal.

However, that effort was ultimately in vain as a shortened Perth roster was unable to counter the might of the Cobras who ran out 29-point victors.

Playing again with just six players the following day, the Wheelcats were able to reverse the previous night’s result with an 86-66 win on the road as Norris did absolutely everything at the offensive end.

He shot 9-26 for 18 points and pulled down ten defensive rebounds but tallied a monstrous triple-double with 23 assists.

Compared to Kilsyth’s 22 assists as a team, Norris was simply unstoppable as he helped Amber Merritt (26 points), Kim Robins (22 points) and Andrew Liddawadi (18 points) get in on the act.

That play-making ability will be a vital aspect of the Wheelcats’ finals chances as they finished the regular season in second place, setting up an encore clash with Kilsyth in a fortnight’s time.
