Dominant Gliders cruise into Semi Final v USA
The dominant performance from the Australian outfit sets up a mouth-watering Semi Final clash with the USA to take place on Thursday evening AEST.
Inspiration for the Gliders was once again found in the form of exciting young duo Amber Merritt (14 points on 7-of-10 shooting) andCobi Crispin (12 points on 6-of-9 shooting), with the pair combining for 26 points.
It was a classically team display from the medal hopefuls, with 10 of the 12 players finding the basket as Mexico had no answer to the variety of the Gliders’ attack.
Kylie Gauci (7 points, 7 assists) and Shelly Chaplin (6 points, 5 assists) were again the facilitators for the Gliders offense, sharing 12 assists for the game.
Mexico was chasing tail from the outset as the Gliders burst to a 21-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. Things only got worse as with a 23-10 second period creating an unassailable 24-point half time margin in favour of the Australians.
With the game in the bag, the second half did little to excite with the Gliders finishing with a final margin of 25 points and plenty of confidence heading into the Semi Final stage.
The Australian Gliders advance to the Semi Finals to take on the USA on Thursday at 10:00pm AEST for the opportunity to play-off for the Gold Medal.
