ROUND 4 REVIEW
The RSL QLD Spinning Bullets hosted the Kilsyth Cobras in Brisbane for their first and last triple header in the league. The Bullets went down 0-3 to the Cobras.
The 7pm game on Friday night was a 11-point contest in the end, even though the Cobras were only leading by 3 points at halftime.
The Bullets were relying heavily on the expert shooting of Tom O’Neill Thorne, who put up 29 points for them, the Cobras had a much more balanced scoring contribution.
Four of the team players were on double digits, with Shawn Russel leading the group with 25 points for the night, and Tristan Knowles owning 14 of the 18 total team assists.
The Cobras had a more comfortable win in the remaining two games, going up by 21 points on Saturday and by 16 points on Sunday.
On Saturday, Tom O’Neill Thorne was highest scorer with 41 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Tristan Knowles was the second highest points scorer for the day with 36 points, 12 assists and 5 rebounds.
On Sunday, Tom O’Neill Thorne equaled his previous score of 41 points, while increasing his total rebounds to 11.
The Cobras put up another great team effort with four of the players contributing in double digits to the score board. Tristan Knowles with 32, Daniel Del Toso with 25, Joshua Allison with 13 and Shawn Russel with 11 points. Tristan set a record high for this NWBL season, of 18 assists in a game.
After Round 4, the rankings for the RSL QLD Spinning Bullets and the Kilsyth Cobras remain unchanged at 5th at 1st on the league ladder respectively. At the top spot, the Cobras are 5 points ahead of the Heelers and the Wheelcats, whilst the former has played one game more than the Cobras and the latter has played one game less than the Cobras, in the league so far.
Meanwhile, in New South Wales, the Sydney Metro Blues hosted the Red Dust Heelers over the weekend. The Heelers managed to win with a considerable margin on both days.
Brad Ness led the scoreboard for the Heelers, averaging 32 points for the weekend, while CJ Grogan led the Blues’ scoreboard by putting up 22 points on Saturday, and 17 points on Sunday.
The Blues went down to Heelers at 53 to 64 on Saturday afternoon, with the Heelers getting their biggest lead of 10 points in the first quarter of the game. The following three quarters saw the Blues trailing only by a few points each time.
In the second contest the Heelers maintained a steady lead throughout, with a thorough team effort from Brad Ness, Jake Kavanagh and Tony Wade who had 33, 14 and 10 points each. Jake had a high shooting conversion rate of 75% in field goals and 100% with free throws.
Even though, the Blues scoreboard reflected some good efforts from CJ Grogan, Anderson Parker and Darren Skuse, they fell short of 17 points to beat the Red Dust Heelers.
With these two wins from the weekend, the Heelers move up to the number 2 spot on the ladder, while the Blues continue to look for that game that puts them on the ‘Wins’ section of the 2016 NWBL.
