ROUND 1 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Averaging a triple-double through the Cluster Round for the Be Active Perth Wheelcats, Shaun Norris is the NWBL Player of the Week for Round 1.

The shooting guard helped the Wheelcats to a 3-1 record through the opening weekend in their return to the competition after missing last season.

Norris began his 2016 campaign in style with a triple-double against Wollongong. His 30 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists came while playing every minute and he recorded only two turnovers.

He again played every minute the following morning against the Spinning Bullets, going close to another triple-double with 35 points, eight boards and 12 assists. Eight turnovers proved costly but it was Norris’ most efficient shooting game, hitting 15-24 (63%) from the field.

That night against Sydney Metro Blues, the Australian Roller played 34 minutes but had another triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in the Wheelcats’ third straight victory.

Perth were unable to sweep the weekend, falling to the defending champions Kilsyth Cobras on Sunday despite a round-high 38 points from Norris as he battled Rollers team mate Tristan Knowles on the scoreboard.

Norris added 12 rebounds (three offensive boards) and nine assists in another outstanding performance while he also drained 3-6 from the three-point line, showcasing his ability to hit from anywhere on the court.

A previous league MVP and finals MVP in the NWBL, Norris looks to be on track for another award winning season as the Wheelcats aim to return to the playoffs.

Shaun Norris Round 1 Stats: 31.8 points at 47% shooting, 11.3 rebounds (2.3 offensive) and 11.3 assists.
