Thunder show they can still make some noise

Adelaide Thunder brought their top game on Saturday night with a tight clash against Sydney Uni Wheelkings. The Wheelkings gained a lead in the opening minutes however Adelaide was hot on their heels not allowing them to get too far ahead. In the fourth quarter Adelaide really turned it up, and after a technical foul was called on Sydney Uni’s veteran, Cannane, Scott Crowley brought the game to 53-all from the free throw line before elevating them to a 2 point lead moments later. Grogan then brought Sydney Uni back to a lead with two baskets in quick succession, while Voncina topped off the last of the game to end it at 60-57.

On the West Coast, the Be Active Perth Wheelcats took on the Victoria Dandenong Rangers in a curtain raiser to the State Basketball League at Mandurah Recreation & Aquatic Centre on Saturday night. In front of almost packed out stands the Rangers made the home team work hard for their 68-61 win. Kim Robins and Robbie Pike top-scored for the Wheelcats with 19 and 18 respectively, while Daniel Del Toso also proved his worth to the Rangers with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Rollerhawks departed Brisbane un-defeated after taking on the RSL Qld Spinning Bullets in 3-game series over the weekend. Despite the mid-season addition of Bill Latham to the Bullets playing roster Wollongong still proved too strong for them to even come close.

Next round sees Wollongong Rollerhawks off to Perth to face the Wheelcats in what will be a fight to see who ends the season on the top of the ladder. Dandenong also head to Sydney Uni for a Saturday night game while Brisbane head south to Adelaide for their last two round matches of the season.
